su tomesen - police
The short video Police, shot at Tienanmen square in Beijing, shows a stationary police car at dusk. The blue rotating lights on the car are operating. Slowly some, in first instance curious, policemen appear in the frame.
The video was exhibited during the Videosummer in Petersburg Project Space in Amsterdam. In November Police was nominated for an Award at The One Minutes Award Night 2008 in Paradiso by jury member Hansje van Etten from Holland Doc / VPRO.
su tomesen - scraping
The short video Scraping was shot at Tienanmen square in Beijing shortly before the start of the Olympic Games. Scraping shows a small army of Chinese working at the square. They remove chewing gum and other dirt.
The video was nominated for a One Minute Award at The One Minutes Award Night 2008 in Paradiso by jury member Mieke Bernink of the Filmacademy.

first snow
it was snowing today in Aalst, but this is not what you see in this video. what you see is what we saw when the light beam of the projector hit the dusty space where we were working. don't let them mislead you, these little ones can be dangerous.

speechless
we, too, were wondering what he was saying to our camera. but in fact, he's saying nothing, and still, it was so important for him to say it!
shot in the outskirts of bujumbura when we visited the Batwa people.

white to red
no, it's not the polish flag, and even polish origins are not to blame. it was a beautiful day here in the lowlands so we took our bikes to get some fresh air in the woods. it was a little too fresh maybe as amir's raynaud demonstrates.

sky crackers
it was a l-o-n-g flight to bujumbura and we had to pass the the time somehow. the stewardess of ethiopian airlines weren't very happy about it. (superstitious, maybe?)

atamato
back in the white(?) continent, and the african dishes are being baked, as promised.
it's true what they say, that africa has another pace, that things takes much longer. here's why.
this one is an "end of the workshop thank you" Burundi style.
please don't ask us what it means, we have no idea.

bzzzz
surprise, surprise, the insects in this video are not africans. they are from some light years away, switzerland. so one more video from la corbière before we enter the bujumbura-videos époque.

waiting for the full pull
no, it's not the midwest but the neat and clean and green switzerland. a great saturday pastime with barbara and rudi and a bunch of hardcore farmers. if we were real video artists we would have made a whole piece out of it. but we are not, we're just tourists. and the link? check this, you can try some online potato peeling here.

That's right folks, it is very easy to be old
well folks, the title for this post does not necessarily mean that i think this way.
it is just a nice title of a song played by The Violent Husbands, a Belgian group that we like a lot and decided to give them the speech in this week's post.
Effi is in Romania giving another One Minutes video workshop and I am in sunny Brussels and it is the longest day in the year and i am sad because this is the day winter starts taking over.

hadar's magnificent marble shoot
this week for the first time we host somebody else's video. it's hadar sackstein's marble shoot which he built in his room during four hours. we cut out some bits and added subtitles but left most of it intact. the second part is all in-camera-editing and we like it a lot. camera credit goes to max sackstein.

over-saturated gwangju
well don't ask us what it is or what they say. we're talking about gwangju here, we have no idea. this video goes back to 2002, when we were lucky to participate the 4th gwangju biennale. (sorry, the website is nowhere to be found, overran by newer biannales it seems)

concert (x2)
this weekend we'll be away and next weekend too, so here are two videos of live music for you:
first one is okkervil river playing 'for real' at stuk. yes, yes, we went to Leuven specially for that.
the second is from last november, an authentic improvised swiss coin concert at clara and valerian's place.
(unfortunately we cannot find a link to clara and valerian's work, so here's a link to haus am gern, to whom we owe this acquaintanceship, as well as many other things...)
